“Breaking the mold
Alternative approach to slip casting”

patuszynska (029)

Monika PATUSZYNSKA, artist and curator, lives and works in Poland.

She obtained a master’s degree at the Academy of Fine Arts (ceramic section) of Wroclaw.

She is a member of the International Academy of Ceramics.

She was for a few years the President of a major international symposium in Poland.

She has received many prizes in international competitions including “Prix de la Ville” in the XXII Biennale de Vallauris.

Her works are in the collections of many museums around the world.

She seeks the difficulties posed by casting porcelain. She is inspired by the process, most of all by its errors and accidents. The objects themselves are not the main focus; they are a side effect of her explorations. She does not believe that a plaster mold as it exists in a factory, smooth and thin, is a true plaster. She does not believe that true porcelain is smooth, submissive and docile, even though it is often presented as such.

The workshop will bring you to the creation of pieces through casting but using alternative molding techniques.
