“Playing with ceramic overglaze decals”

Ivan Albreht was born and raised in Belgrade, former Yugoslavia (present Republic of Serbia). He presently lives and works between Miami (USA) and Belgrade (Serbia).

His work ranges from objects to large scale installations that often incorporate other materials in conjunction with fired porcelain. He is interested in ways of using technology and generic production so to challenge the conservative view of ceramics as a decorative craft. His intent is to create compositions that are, upon a first glance, experienced as pleasing while with a decrease in distance their beauty gradually declines. Through this approach he confronts the idea of “beauty” as reduced to external appearances. His intention is to raise questions about human condition, more specifically, individuality in the sociopolitical context of the Western society.

He has participated in many international competitions and exhibitions, and being awarded with significant recognitions including Special Prize at the 4th World Ceramic Biennial in Korea (CEBIKO). He is elected member of the International Academy of Ceramics (IAC/AIC) since 2009.

He has taught at Monmouth University, and is presently Professor of Art in charge of ceramics program at University of Miami, Florida.
