 “Soft Raku + Terra sigillata”

Giovanni Cimatti was born (in 1949) lives and works in Faenza (Italy).

He graduated from G.Ballardini Art Institute and then he obtained his Diploma of the “Tommaso Minardi” ‘s School of drawing,  in Faenza. President of the Institute of Ceramic Arts in Siena until 1975, he returned to Faenza to lead the Tommaso Minardi’s School of Drawing . In 1977, he obtained a professorship at the “Ballardini” ‘s Art Institute of Ceramics , as the Director of the ceramics Projects department.

He  has been featured in numerous publications and today, as an   internationaly reknown artist, his works are exhibited in museums and galleries around the world, including Japan, South Korea and in the United States …

His artistic activities range from the production of visual art design, with different methodologies far from the tradition Faenza.

He is currently Professor in charge at the Training Centre of Ceramics and Colors  in Faenza.

Since 1996, he began production of polished forms with orange shades, using terra sigillata. This research associated with Raku technique is a variant which he calls “Raku Dolce”.  This is a technique “apart” which will give a unique result.
We will learn this technique during the workshop and all created pieces  will be finalized with a Raku firing.
For the one-day workshop, you will work on small tiles.
